Atlantic Coast Conference(ACC) Outreach
Crossfire exhibition basketball team competes every year after the NCAA tournament is completed in April. Crossfire competes against the seniors from Duke University, University of North Carolina, Wake Forest University, N.C State and Clemson Universities in several games around Western North Carolina, particularly Hickory and Asheville, NC.
The Crossfire ACC All-star Classic began in 1994 when Duke University’s All American, Grant Hill, was a senior. That night 2,500 fans packed the Asheville High gymnasium, as Crossfire and the ACC All-Stars competed. Crossfire conducted a pre-game youth rally with special music, testimonies, and God’s Word. At half-time a three point contest and dunk contest were held. The Gospel was shared and over 500 people raised their hands and prayed to receive Jesus Christ-Glory to the Lord!
Crossfire defeated the ACC All-Stars 119-111. Crossfire’s Randy Shepherd defeated Grant Hill in a 3 point contest, but, what matters in not the score or the half-time contests, but the souls that were saved for the Glory of the Lord.
Each year since then, Crossfire has competed against the ACC seniors. Past players from the ACC have included Wake Forest’s All American and current San Antonio Spurs NBA MVP Tim Duncan, North Carolina and current Los Angeles Lakers player Shammond Williams, Duke University’s Trajon Langdon (Current European Pro), North Carolina standout and current Washington Wizard’s center Brandon Haywood, Duke University’s 2006 player of the year and current Orlando Magic guard J.J Reddick, and former Duke Blue Devil and current Golden State Warrior DeMarcus Nelson.
In 15 games, Crossfire has won 7 games, and the ACC 8. More importantly, thousands of young people and adults have made decisions for the Lord Jesus Christ – Glory to the Lord!
