As a young boy I had a desire to become a high school, college, and pro basketball player. I began my quest working hard. At the age of nine I made the greatest decision a person can make by asking Jesus to come into my heart and forgive my of my sins and become my Lord and Savior.

Unfortunately, in high school and my first two years of college my priorities got out of order, basketball became number one and I fell into sin in some areas of my life ( wrong relationships, experimenting with alcohol and pride). The Lord used an injury my junior year while on a basketball scholarship at UNC Asheville to get my attention. I could have died and I was not ready to stand before God. I confessed my sins to Jesus and totally surrendered my life back to Him. He delivered me from the pain of depression and anxiety. I began to read the Bible and pray and began to be concerned for those who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. He gave me the peace, security and fulfillment that money, success, alcohol and pre-marital sex cannot bring.

Are you ready to stand before God? The Bible says in Hebrews 9:28 “It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.” The only way to God and Heaven is through a personal relationship with Jesus. (John 14:6) Will you turn from your sins (repent) and surrender your life to Jesus today?

As athletes we can all relate to training, discipline and a total commitment to reach goals whether personal or as a team. All my life I have been involved in attempting to reach these commendable goals and at times with great pain and effort. Yet all I have done in sweat and devotion pales in comparison to the greatest champion the world has ever known and his name is Jesus.

At the age of nine I turned my heart to Jesus. I understood through His word that He did something that no athlete or anyone had ever done or ever could. He defeated the opponent of “death and sin” once and for all at the cross. I took to heart what His word teaches in John 3:15, “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” I asked Jesus Christ to come into my heart and to cleanse me of all sins.

It is with great joy that I can say I am now a new creation in Christ Jesus. I have reached the goal of all goals because of what He did at the cross. I am on the winning team and Jesus is my Lord, Savior, friend and coach. I hope that you have made that decision and if not that you will make it soon.

How Do I Become a Follower of Jesus?
Here is what you must do to become a follower of Jesus!

Admit to God you have sinned, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Believe that God loves you and sent His Son Jesus to take the penalty for your sins, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Confess and believe in your heart Jesus is Lord, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe that God has raised him from the dead you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

You can tell Jesus that you will now follow him by praying this prayer in your heart.

Dear God, I know that Jesus is your Son, and that He died on the cross and was raised from the dead. I know I have sinned and need forgiveness. I am willing to turn from my sins and receive Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Take control of my life and make me the kind of person you want me to be, Amen.
